MANGALORE : Two under trials who tried to escape while being taken to the Hindalaga jail, were re-arrested while yet another was successful in giving the cops a slip, at Kurubagatti in Dharwad district. The incident took place when five accused in the case of attempting to attack the superintendent of the city sub-jail and then clashing with other, were being taken to the Belgaum prison, on Thursday.
The under trials who tried to escape from the clutches of the city’s DAR cops have been identified as Farooq alias Farooq Ahmed , Sooryakumar, Nagaraj alias Jogi Nagaraj and KS Narayan. The under trial who escaped is Ismail Arif alias Mohammad Arif.
These five had clashed with each other at the city’s sub-jail last Wednesday and had even tried to attack superintendent Shesha who tried to prevent them. In this backdrop they were being taken to the Hidalaga jail. When the police vehicle slowed down in the Kurubara Gatti area where the roads were in a bad shape, the under trials taking advantage of the situation and also finding the cops in the vehicle were dozing off, tried to escape.
Ismail who was successful in escaping was an accused in the case of killing a car driver in his bid to steal the vehicle. If the now re-arrested Farooq was first arrested at the Bajpe airport on charges of possessing foreign currency illegally, Sooryakumar had been accused of murdering an aged person in a flat at Ballalbagh. If Nagaraj was a theft accused, Narayan was the accused in the case of throwing acid on Sullia’s advocate Venkappa Gowda.
