MANGALORE: As investigation into the criminal deeds resorted to by the serial killer Mohan Kumar is expected to pose a major challenge to the police department, there are all possibilities of this case being handed over to the CoD.
According to a senior police official, matters have been made worse as the accused was involved in criminal cases not only in the district but also elsewhere and that the separate probes that would be undertaken in every district may lead to some confusion.
There is also no guarantee that Mohan who has confessed his guilt before the cops, may do so before the court. Moreover, some cases are years old making it difficult to gather some vital information. In the backdrop of all these facts, it is widely believed that a CoD probe was far better than a departmental probe into this case.
The police, it is learnt, may also find it difficult to gather the intestinal examination reports of all the girls killed by Mohan and even if made available it would be difficult to prove that the deaths were due to consumption of cyanide. Even the presenting of a charge sheet before the court would be a tough task for the police department as the case was having several ‘missing links.’
Police also say that in case of an independent and separate probe the possibilities of lack of evidences may be less.
