Labourer killed in landslide at Ujire

BELTHANGADY : A labourer was killed and two other sustained injuries when soil from a nearby hillock caved in at the construction site of the SDM Engineering College at Ontimaragudde on Monday. The site of the mishap is considered an ancient place of relevance and is located at Siddavana in Ujire.
The deceased labourer has been identified as Abdul Razak (20), a resident of Charmady village. Two other labourers namely Abdul Kareem and Hassainar who too were at the site and were buried in the soil however escaped with minor injuries.
It is said that unscientific means of construction by retaining the nearly 15 to 20 feet tall hill had led to the mishap. Of the two injured, one labourer has been admitted to Belthangady Government Hospital, while the other person has been admitted to Ujire Government Hospital.
