MANGALORE : Even as cops are making every possible effort to unravel all the criminal activities of the serial killer Kanyana Mohan Kumar, another interesting fact that he had even cheated a bank by not repaying a loan, has come to light.
The accused had availed Rs 1.5 lakhs from the Puttur branch of Teachers’ Cooperative Bank in the year 1999 while he was serving as a teacher in a Puttur school, by pledging the documents of a 0.34 acre land. Even two of his colleagues then had stood as guarantors. It is learnt,he had stopped repaying the loan even prior to his transfer to the Kutyadka school in Belthangady.
When the bank at Puttur directed its Belthangady branch to recover the loan amount, Mohan bean to evade the bank staff. Even their search for him in the school proved futile as he used to remain absent most of the days.
Now, the bank staff, it is said are after Mohan’s then collagues who had stood as guarantors. One of them said they regretted standing as guarantors to Mohan on the grounds that he was a good colleague.
According to the Bank manager, Mohan owes Rs 3.5 lakh including interest, to the bank.
