Ramachandapur seer’s brother-in-law dismissed from Mutt

Posted on Oct 30th, 2009 and filed under General.

SHIMOGA : Jagadish sharma, the brother-in-law of Sri Raghaveshwara Theertha Swamiji of Ramachandrapur Mutt, has been axed from his position in the Mutt as well as an educational institution run by it, in connection with the sex scandal reported from the institution, informed UH Ramappa, President of the Mutt Suraksha Samithi. What makes this case more interesting is that Sharma is none other than the seer’s brother-in-law (sister’s husband). He was also the editor of a journal being brought out by the Mutt and was the overall in-charge of the Mutt activities.

Addressing a press meet, Ramappa said allegations against Sharma were heard when the seer was in his Chaturmasa at Kolkata. Though parents of the aggrieved students were given an opportunity to make a statement with regard to this incident, none came forward. Still, the seer on his own , has dismissed Sharma, Ramappa informed.
” The allegation that Sharma was into real estate busines in Bangalore and Mysore using the Mutt funds, were baseless. There is no information on his misusing the name of the mutt anywhere. With regard to the recent scandal in which Sharma is involved, it has been decided to form a committee of prominent personalities from outside the mutt and the next action would be on the basis of the committee’s report,” Ramappa said.
What’s this case
The Mutt has given opportunity for even female students to study Sanskrit in the gurukula run by it. Girls from poor families belonging to Havyaka community had joined the gurukula which was under the supervsion of Jagadish Sharma who was also its principal. It is learnt, Sharma eyed the young girls in the gurukula and molested them by inviting them to his chamber on the pretext of studies.Reports regarding this had even appeared in the media earlier.Following this incident nearly 26 female students had quit the institute and returned home complaining to their parents that Sharma even punished them if they did not pay heed to him. The incident took place when the seer was away from the Mutt.

Meanwhile, reacting to rumours that Sri Raghaveshwara Theertha Swamiji would relinquish his peetha, Ramappa made it clear that the rumours were far from truth and that the Swamiji had not taken any such decision. He also claimed that it was a mere anti-propaganda by people who could not tolerate the seer’s popularity. On the complaints that the people who had moved court with regard to the transfer of Gokarna temple, were being threatened, Ramappa said the reports were false and the Mutt had no role in this.

Will attend Paryaya at any cost, declares Puttige seer UDUPI: The Paryaya controversy seems to have reached a flashpoint with Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt who has not been invited for the Paryaya, declaring on January 11, Wednesday that he would take part in the Paryaya procession and Darbar of Sode Seer at any cost. In the event of the Puttige seer keeping his words, then the seers of the mutts excluding the Shiroor and Pejawar mutts are likely to object, leading to tension during the Paryaya. The Puttige seer announced his decision at a meeting convened by the Sri Krishna Mukhyaprana Samithi, Hindu Samaja Samithi, religious and political leaders on January 11. The seer, it is learnt will be taken in a palanquin during the Paryaya procession. If the Sode Paryaya seer is adamant that the Puttige seer should not be invited, the Puttige seer is firm on his decision to take part considering it his right to do so. The Samithi has said that the Sode seer has erred by not extending an invitation to the Puttige seer and by also omitting his name in the Paryaya Darbar invitation, contrary to the tradition which requires all the seers of the Ashta Mutts to take part. It has also requested the Pejawar seer to intervene and end the impasse.
