UDUPI : Want to purchase a mobile sim card ? They are available in plenty on the footpaths of Udupi and Manipal. This is nothing but a dangerous development to which the Udupi TMC and the police department have turned a blind eye.
There is every chance of the sims sold on footpaths being used for dreaded acts like terror and other unlawful activites. Here it is worth recalling that the Delhi terror links that extended upto Mangalore some time back had revealed that the ultras had purchased sims in Mangalore giving fake address. Now that the sims are available in footpaths have given a golden opportunity for the unlawful elements.
The Udupi police department is still in slumber despite intelligence warnings of possible terror strikes in the coastal areas. Citizens have even complained that it is nothing but an irony that the TMC has maintained a blind eye to these sim sellers when it has chosen to evict footpath vendors on various occasions.
It is believed that the authorities of the mobile companies were making all sort of gimmicks to increase their sales and reach their targets in this age of cut-throat competion.It is also said that the companies were securing the xerox of the photo and ID cards from sim purchasers only for namesake without verifying thedetails.
Citizens of the temple town feel there was an urgent need to put a brake to this sim sale on footpaths.
