MANGALORE : Members of the 35 Central Padavu Ward Development Committee led by Corporator Mariamma Thomas staged a protest in front of the city corporation office on Thursday opposing the apathy of the corporation towards the problems of the ward.
Addressing the agitators, Mariamma Thomas alleged that the city corporation had failed to complete several of the pending projets in the ward and complained that even waste disposal was irregular. She also stated that the Bikarnakatte sub-office of the MCC was not functioning efficiently and took the corporation to task for failing to arrive at a clear cut decision on the SAS.
Stating that the Padavu ward has remained a backward ward, she said the Corporation was totally neglecting several such wards while concretizing various roads of the town.
The agitators also demanded the Corporation to immediately rectify the discrepanices in water bills.
Interestingly, even Congress corporators joined the protest led by independent corporator Mariamma Thomas. Prominent Congress leaders who took part in the protest were opposition leader Harinath and former maypor Shashidhar Hegde.
