Police Commissionerate promise turns false

Posted on Nov 2nd, 2009 and filed under Local News.

MANGALORE : Home Minister VS Acharya’s promise that a Rajyotsava gift would be given to the people of Mangalore by announcing the formation of the Police Commissionerate on November 1, has proved to be a false assurance with no such announcement coming in on Rajyotsava Day.
In fact there was a growing demand for a police commissionerate ever since the communal strifes that rocked Mangalore in the year 1998. The demand further intensified after the church attacks and several cases of communal clashes making the district a communally sensitive district.
Interestingly, while MP Prakash was the home minister, he had assured to bring Mangalore under the purview of the Police Commissionerate. The proposal in this regard was forwarded to the government when Suresh Babu was the IGP. In the year 2008, home minister had ordered to forward a new proposal and accordingly a proposal was sent by IGP AM Prasad. Following this Acharya had informed that the Police Commissionerate would be announced on August 15.
As of now politicians seem to have forgotten about this proposal. When DGP Ajaykumar Singh’s attention was drawn towards the Police Commissionerate proposal, he only said ” Ask the home minister.”
With no announcement coming forth on police commissionerate, it can be rightly said that as of now it remains a distant dream for the region.
