DC inspects Bantwal underground drainage works

BANTWAL : Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj inspected the underground drainage works underway in the Bantwal TMC limits following complaints that there were irregularities in the implementation of this project worth Rs 14 crores.
During inspection, the DC took note of the fact that the manholes were constructed adjacent to the drinking water pipelines. As pointed out by senior councillor A Govind Prabhu, the DC also noticed that proper cement mixture has not been used while constructing the manholes.
The Deputy Commissioner also expressed surprise over the haste with which the underground drainage project is being initiated in the TMC limits even when the water supply project was incomplete.
He also instructed the TMC authorities to give priority to completion of the water supply projects.
The DC further directed that all the sub-standard manholes be removed. The Councillors were also asked to bring to the notice of the officials discrepancies if any in the project in the future.
The DC inspected the works at several places in the TMC limits.
TMC President Yashoda, members A Govind Prabhu,B Dinesh Bhandari, B Devadas Shetty, Chief Engineer Shivalinga Kondadaguli and others were present during the DC’s visit.
