Stolen police rifle traced after 17 yrs !

MANGALORE : In an interesting case, a rifle that was stolen from the Kankanady police station 17 years ago has been traced in a house at Padil by the DCIB police.

The rifle was found in the residence of Harish Poojari (35) of Padil Karmar. He has been arrested along with the rifle recently.

The rifle bearing number 303 was stolen from the station in the year 1992 and the then constable Madoji Rao had complained in this regard.

Following an investigation, Dharnappa, who was then working as a sentry in the station, Derappa and PC Devu Shetty were subject to punishment. A criminal case had also been lodged against Dharnappa Gowda inflicting much mental agony on him. This had also affected his health and he had finally breathed his last.

Meanwhile, following information that Harish had the rifle in his house, the DCIB police raided the house recently and seized the same.

However, during interrogation Harish said he got the rifle in a well 12 years ago. Still he had erred by not informing the police and is now behind the bars.
