MANGALORE : Even as the recent attack on a few Muslim students of the Edapadavu Government College by Bhajrangdal activists at Vamanjoor is still afresh in public minds, a few goonda elements reportedly backed by Mohan Alva, the Chairman of the Alva’s Education Foundation, who also happens to be the President of the Edapadavu College Management Committee, attacked a few students of the college for the sole reason that they raised objection to a comment made by Alva. Meanwhile, nine Muslim students of the college have been suspended for objecting to Mohan Alva’s statement.
The incident took place on Tuesday, when the college management was holding a meeting in the backdrop of the recent incident. It is learnt, at the meeting, Mohan Alva said that ” the students did not go to take part in sports but to make merry,” infuriating the students who strongly objected to the remark. No soon this came to the notice of the saffron brigade which was standing outside, they reportedly attacked the students.
Speaking to Karavali Ale on the incident, a student Imtiyaz said so ” We did not feel it was proper to speak low about students who were on way to attend a sports coaching at the instructions of the principal. Though majority of the students attended classes, a few of us had been to the correspondent’s room adjacent to the room of the principal to seek an explanation when the the comment came.When we objected his men who were waiting outside attacked us.”
Though the entire district is condemning the attack on the students who were on way for coaching in he backdrop of the state level sports meet at Hassan, the college committee president Mohan Alva who considers himself an educationist has not chosen to condemn the incident,but has invited the wrath of many by commenting that the students were having fun.
When asked why the nine students were suspended,Alva only said ” They were suspended as they had entered the chamber without my permission even as the meeting was in progress.”
