Financier arrested for bid to cheat

MANGALORE : Kadri police have arrested Raj Kalyani (30), owner of Kalyani Finance Company of Mallikatte for making a vain bid to draw nearly Rs 2 lakhs using a blank cheque which was signed by a person who stood as a guarantor for the loan availed by him.
It is learnt Raj Kalyani who works for KFC in Mallikatte had availed a loan of Rs 25000 from Sri Jnaneshwar Alva’s finance at Shalimar Complex in Kankanady for which Dil Prakash Vaz who also worked for KFC had stood as guarantor and had provided two blank cheques of Axis Bank as surety. Recently when Raj cleared his loan, the bank authorities informed Dil Prakash and asked him to take back his documents. However, when Prakash had been to the bank along with Raj Kalyani to get back his documents, Raj somehow succeeded in laying hands on the two blank cheques, by escaping Prakash’s eyes.
Prakash who noticed that the two blank cheques were missing only after he returned home, had immediately asked the bank to stop payment. Meanwhile, Raj Kalyani had arrived at the bank to draw Rs 2 lakhs using the cheque. The bank authorities immediately informed Prakash who intimated Kadri Police who arrived at the bank and arrested Raj Kalyani. The accused has been produced before the court.
