Leopard dies in trap laid for boar

MOODBIDRI : A leopard which had entered into the town in search of food, met a tragic end when it fell into the trap laid for a boar at Mudaikadu in Beluvai village on Sunday night.
Lawrence Mendonca, a resident of Mudaikadu, had laid the trap using a strong wire to trap the wild boar on Sunday. Forest officials said the dead leopard might be a five year old one.As per the Wildflife Act, a case was registered against Mendonca. He was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Earlier, Lawrence, had revealed to locals that he had laid the trap only to get back one of the boars which he was rearing and went missing recently. Asked if the boar would not die in the trap, he said he would have let it free on hearing its cries.
