DYFI sets 15 day deadline to close down KFDC fish kiosk

Posted on Dec 3rd, 2009 and filed under Local News.

MANGALORE : The DYFI which has set a 15 day deadline to close down the air-conditioned fish kiosk set up by the KFDC at Chilimbi, has warned that it would picket the outlet and stage a protest on December 18 if the
demand was not heeded.
The DYFI has said that the KFDC by opening the outlet has hit at the bellies of the fisherfolk who are already reeling under innumerous problems due to globalization policies. The recent Asean agreement has also been a severe blow wherein fish from foreign nations openly enter Indian market at lower fares, threatening to drive the domestic fisher folk to the streets.
The DYFI has also said that it was condemnable on the part of the KFDC which ought to help the fishermen, to do injustice to them by setting up such fish sale outlets.
