MANGALORE : It has come to light of late that the under secretary of the Government had cited false reasons to suspend the chairperson and two members of the Child Welfare Committee of Dakshina Kannada district.
The CWC members are planning to meet the governor and discuss the issue in the backdrop of the suspension notice issued in the name of the governor. The matter will also be brought to the notice of the district magistrate.
Though CWC Chairperson Hilda Rayappan and members Renny Peter D’Souza and Geo Ferry James D’Souza had given a detailed reply to the show cause noticed served on them in the month of October questioning why they should not be suspended, the suspension letter has said that no reply has been received from them.
The CWC had replied to the notice in October 2008 itself, while another detailed letter had been sent on November 4 in response to the notice served by the department director in October 2009. There are even acknowledgement records for the same. Still, it is said the CWC members had been suspended in a pre-planned act.
Meanwhile Renny D’Souza, CWC member, said the government has levelled several allegations against the CWC for no reason.” The tough stand of the CWC might have created problems for those indulging in child trafficking and those employing child labourers. Let them show even one instance wherein the children or their rights have been affected by the CWC action,” he challenged.
Stating that the CWC has functioned in a highly effective manner in cases pertaining to misuse of children, their illegal detention and child trafficking, he said this had become a bitter pill for many to swallow. The conspiracy by those who are ignorant of children’s rights and child related laws, has hit hard the CWC, he observed. He further said the Women and Child Welfare Department officials who lifted five files from the CWC office recently, had not attended even a single meeting of the CWC.”
