UDUPI : In what could be considered a grim reminder of the series of church attacks that rocked various parts of the district last year, miscreants stoned and damaged the statue of St Antony located near the gate of the Sacred Heart Church at Kolalagiri near Brahmavar on Monday night.
The police who have registered a case, have also formed a special squad to apprehend the attackers on the church.
Special prayer sessions being held in the church from December 13 to 17 is being attended by thousands of Christians.
The incident took place late Monday night after the prayer session concluded at around 10 pm.
According to locals, a new liquor shop had been opened on the road in front of the church, the very day the attack took place and that a party was underway there till late night. It is suspected that the miscreants might have stoned the vehicle as they were moving in a vehicle.
