SHRC orders probe into Kolalagiri church attack

BANGALORE : The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission which has voluntarily registered a case with regard to the recent incident wherein miscreants stoned and damaged the grotto of St Antony in the premises of the Sacred Heart Church at Kolalagiri near Brahmavar,has directed the authorities concerned to immediately undertake an investigation and submit a report to the Commission.
The Commission Chairman Justice SR Nayak has directed the DK and Udupi SPs and Western Range IGP to undertake a probe and submit a report within one month. It has also directed the department to ensure suitable protection to the places of worship of the minority community.
Rev Fr Jerome Montheiro, Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart Church reacting to the incident has said that it was a communally instigated act and added that the civil society can never tolerate such incidents. He has also demanded that the district administration considered this case seriously and initiate action against the guilty.
