UDUPI: “The state government was fixing innocents in false cases through the police machinery. The state has seen as many as 874 cases of attacks on Muslims in one year period. This is the heights of injustice,” said MF Saldanha, Human Rights activist and former High Court judge.
Addressing a meeting on “Students’ Voice for Brotherhood’ organized by the Students Islamic Organization of India in the town on Monday, he said “ The minorities have contributed significantly to this nation, but were being targeted forgetting their contributions. The situation may be worrisome, if the courts which have to uphold justice, fail in making the right move in this regard.”
Referring to the SEZ, Saldanha said farmers have been rendered landless for the project in Mangalore. He further added that the situation may turn violent as the police machinery as well as the district administration is used against the farmers.
Suhail KK, National President of SIO India, in his address said the brotherhood feelings have been hurt in the nation “Terrorism is no answer to any problem” he said adding Naxal menace too cannot be curbed without trying to find the root problem. “It is regrettable to note movements and agitations on communal and language lines when the nation is facing many problems owing to poverty,” he further added.
