Prize to a non-participant team!

Posted on Dec 30th, 2009 and filed under Youth Affairs.

SULLIA : A fracas was reported between a group of competitors as well as the organizers of the state level Yuvajana Mela that concluded at Vittal recently after the organizers announced and even presented a prize for a team that had in reality not participated in a particular event.
The Bhajans competition for women was participated by Vidyavaridhi Yuvathi Mandala of Huliyalu CN Halli in Tumkur district representing the Bangalore Division, while the Mysore Division was represented by Sampaje Sneha Yuvathi Mandala of Kodagu. The Belgaum division was resented by the Mayammadevi Yuvathi Mandala of Badami taluk. But the organizers by mistake had declared the non-participant Yuvathi Mandala of Bidar district as the winners of the second prize, instead of Mayammadevi Yuvathi Mandala who were the actual winners.
The winners were announced at the prize distribution function and the Yuvathi Mandala of Bidar on announcing their name received the second prize and left the place. Soon after there was a fracas between the Mayammadevi Yuvathi Mandala which was deprived of its rightful prize and the organizers and officials. The verbal duel lasted for nearly two hours and finally the team was presented the award after all the audience had left the venue.
TP member apologies for abusing scribes
When proper seating arrangements had not been made for journalists who had been to the Yuvajana Mela to report the inaugural function, an invitee journalist had complained the same with the organizers. Then TP member Juliana Crasta had interfered saying “Let the journalists die if they cannot sit.” This infuriated the scribes who demanded an apology from Crasta who eventually apologized later on after S Manmatha, one of the members of the organizing team, intervened.
