MANGALORE: It has been learnt that an aged person died of heart attack when District Crime Investigation Bureau Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna raided the former’s residence to arrest a person in connection with a cheque bounce case.
The deceased has been identified as Paul Salvadore Martis (70). On Tuesday midnight the DCIB inspector had raided the house of Martis to arrest his son Roshan Martis alias Roshan Maani in connection with a cheque bounce case.
It is learnt at around 12.30, the police personnel knocked at the doors of Roshan’s house. Roshan, his wife Anitha, father Paul and mother Philomena were at the house at that time. The cops, it is learnt, broke open the door and took Roshan to their custody.
Paul who was deeply agonized following this incident and was lamenting saying “They will kill my son†died of a heart failure. Roshan who has been produced before the court has been released on bail following the demise of his father. He has said he would be lodging a complaint with senior police officials regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, SP Dr AS Rao said “The cops had no other go but to break open the doors after the occupants made them wait for nearly two hours outside. After the accused was taken to the station, his father passed away. Had Roshan surrendered before the court, then has father’s life would have been saved. Personally, even I feel hurt to know that a father lost his life for the folly of his son.†“At the outset, the cops are not at wrong. We will investigate if a complaint is lodged,†the SP added.
