MANGALORE: Renowned Kannada actor Dr Vishnuvardhan is no more. But his fans and admirers will remember him for long and cherish the superb acting of the highly talented actor.
The actor had visited Mangalore on April 5, 1983. He had then come for the inaugural of noted Tulu playwright Vijaykumar Kodialbail’s first play “Thaiya Thaka Thaiya’ at the PVS Kalakunja in Mangalore which was packed to its capacity. Thousands were waiting to catch a glimpse of their favourite star.
Vishnu who had not only addressed his admirers and fans at the function, but had even enthralled them by singing the popular song ‘Tuttu Anna Thinnoke, bogase Neeru Kudiyoke’ of the film ‘Jimmigallu’ based on Venugopal Kasargod’s novel by the name. Vishnu himself was the playback singer for this song in the film.
This was in fact the first public function participated by Vishnu while he had rarely taken part in such functions.
Though Mangalore has no fan clubs of Vishnu, there is no dearth for his admirers. The thousands who had gathered to catch a glimpse of Vishnu at the function, is itself a proof to his popularity among film buffs here, says Vijaykumar Kodialbail.
Vishnu who had come to Mangalore for the shooting of several of his films had also acted in the films “Sididedda Sahodararu,†“Hombisilu†and ‘Kittu Puttu’ produced by the Baliga brothers of Mangalore origin. He used to stay at the erstwhile Woodside Hotel during every visit to Mangalore.
