PUTTUR: The last minute efforts of the State BJP Chief DV Sadananda Gowda to do some patch-work in the Puttur BJP which is rocked by dissidence, has failed. It is learnt, the dissident Bhami Ashok Shenoy faction had adopted a ‘Don’t care’ attitude to all the patch-up efforts.
If DV’s disciple and confidante Gopalkrishna Herale assumed the post of Puttur BJP chief with due backing of the Sangh Parivar, it was opposed y a few others. It is said though DV tried to contact Ashok Shenoy over phone from Bangalore, the latter had failed to respond. Even the efforts to contact Ashok Shenoy’s elder brother Jagadish Shenoy proved futile.
It is also said that the erstwhile president Achyut Moodittaya was contacted over telephone by senior BJP leader Balakrishna Mugerodi and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, the night previous to the appointment of the new chief, asking the former to tender his resignation, saying it was a directive from the RSS. It is said Moodittaya had then expressed his displeasure over the decision.
Though DV wanted to have his relative Sanjeev Murandur as the taluk BJP chief, MLA Mallika Bhandari’s husband Prasad Bhandari is learnt to have recommended the name of Gopalakrishna Herale and was even successful in his efforts.
Local BJP workers also feel that the rift between Moodittaya and another BJP leader Suresh Alva too played a vital role in displacing Moodittaya with due efforts from Prasad Bhandari who paid heed to Alva and worked against Moodittaya who was one of his confidantes.
