BANGALORE:  Energy Minister KS Eshwarappa has dampened the spirits of the people of the state who had a hope that the New Year would solve the power problems, by saying the State has no power even to be pilfered. He has shocked the state by saying “From whom shall the state purchase power?”

Eshwarappa who has set aside several of his earlier promises has said the state was facing  severe power problems and the government was now seriously contemplating to purchase power from outside.

The Minister has said that the state was facing a shortage of 1,970 mw of electricity, thereby hinting that the situation at present was such that half of the state will have to remain in darkness.

If the Raichur thermal power plant is sick, the Bellary plant is in problem. Already talks are being held with the Centre to seek power,” Eshwarappa said adding though the Centre had shown interest in taking up Kaiga second phase project, so far no Central team has arrived for a survey.
