The health officer of the Udupi TMC has been subjecting the petty shop keepers and other roadside mobile shop owners of the town to much oppression since some time. The people of Udupi are a witness to this . One can often notice the official abusing these poor traders in derogatory language, without a least concern that they are only trying to eke out a living without harming anyone.
This at a time when the authorities turn a blind eye to the encroachment of footpaths by large traders who place their goods on display right on the footpaths itself. Even the traffic police are blind towards the parking of vehicles in no-parking zone.
It is a surprise that so far no action has been taken against this particular health official despite several complaints against him. He who had been transferred elsewhere some time back however had seen to it that he was posted in Udupi itself.
