MANGALORE : The teaching and non-teaching staff of the Mangalore University has lodged a complaint with the Panambur police through Vice Chancellor KM Kaveriappa demanding legal action under Atrocities against Dalits Act against the Vijaya Karnataka daily for publishing a derogatory report against a lecturer of the SC ST community of Mangalore University and also abusing him in the name of caste.
A case has been registered and investigations are in progress
The Vijaya Karnataka issue of November 16, 2009 had published a derogatory report against a lecturer in the journalism department of the University under the heading “ Upanyasakaremba Maharajaru, shikshakaremba sarakari kooliyalugalu.” The report had even criticized a journalism department lecturer for denying permission to a few students to appear for exams following shortage of attendance. The report was said to have been written with prejudiced interests pursuing hatred and vengeance against the SC ST lecturers of the university.
When CT contacted Panambur DySP Girish, he said a complaint has been received against Vijaya Karnataka and that the investigation would be taken up as soon as the complainant who is now on a tour returns.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor KM Kaveriappa said the complaint was made by the University’s Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Association on December 2 wherein they have brought to his notice a defamatory report on a lecturer in a daily.
