BELTHANGADY: Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji has said that he would drop his proposed hunger strike against the SEZ only if the meeting to be held at Pejawar Mutt on January 26 with SEZ officials and elected representatives to discuss the pros and cons of the SEZ would favorably respond to the demands of the evacuees. Or else, the day of his hunger strike would be fixed at this meeting itself and the agitation will be held with due backing of the Ashta Mutt seers, he informed.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Ujire Sri Janardhana Temple on the occasion of Sri Madhwa Navami Mahotsav, the seer said the hunger strike was sure to be held if the SEZ authorities failed to convince the people that no harm would be done to the people and that local developmental works would be affected due to the SEZ.
Making it clear that he was also against the Suvarna Karnataka Corridor Project, the Pejawar seer said the matter has already been discussed with Home Minister VS Acharya who has assured to look into the matter.
On the Nagarjuna plant, he said the company which has still not secured permission for some of its works, has also not provided compensation to some of the evacuees. He demanded that the company immediately provide compensation to those deprived of the same.
The seer also chose the occasion to make it clear that there was no difference of opinion between the Ashta Mutt Seers and that all are followers of Madhwa philosophy. He also said that ‘The Ashta Mutts are committed to offer Madhwa Deeksha even to non-Brahmins.â€
