BHATKAL : The State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice SR Nayak who held a meeting of officials and general public at Bhatkal on Thursday, took the government as well as the police department to task for its failure to prevent church attacks and also to ensure sufficient precautionary measures.
Expressing his resentment over the inaction of the authorities despite some organizations threatening to attack churches and Australian citizens in the land, in retaliation to the attacks on Indians in Australia, he said such incidents of attacks on churches would not have taken place had the authorities initiated action against those who made such a statement.
He also directed the police department to keep an eye on miscreant groups that are only interested in disturbing the peace and tranquility in the society.
Suspecting some hidden agenda behind the church attacks, he urged the government to initiate strict against those disturbing peace in the society and also steps to instill confidence in the minorities who were shaken following the recent attacks.
Local Legislator JD Naika, Assistant Commissioner Trilokchandra, senior police officials and members of the general public took part in the meeting.
