MANGALORE : An incident in which the Bajpe SI Pramod Kumar reportedly attacked the Project Manager of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd(ISPRL) who had been to the station on some duty, and then pushed him behind bars, took place on Wednesday evening. The victim is Vijayanand Naika, an ST officer working for ISPRL.
Informing The Canara Times about the incident, Naveen, an officer in ISPRL said so- “Vijayananda Naika had been to the Bajpe station to discuss the matter pertaining to the issuing of a clearance certificate to the ISPRL to set up a petrol bunk in Bajpe, though the file in this regard had already been sent to the station. But SI Pramod Kumar attacked Vijayananda Naika for no reason and even abused him despite the latter revealing his identity and also stating that he belonged to the ST community and was the son of a political leader. When an agitated Vijayananda told the officer that he will be forced to complain to the higher ups, the SI immediately arrested him, registered an FIR and produced him before the court. As Vijayanand is suffering from heart ailment, the court has directed that he be admitted to Wenlock Hospital.â€
Naveen also said that a complaint would be lodged with the SP and the Human Rights Commission against the SI Pramod Kumar for not just fixing an ST officer in a false case but also putting him behind bars after attacking him.
This is not the first time
This is however not the first time that the Bajpe SI is committing atrocities on innocents. When builder Dharmaraj had questioned Pramod Kumar when he was serving as SI of Panambur, for filing a case against an innocent young woman, the builder was asked to come to the station where he was made to stand in underwear and then assaulted.
He had even raided a masjid near Tannirbavi where a Kurbani was being held as per tradition the day following Bakrid and had directed all those present there and were butchering cattle to get into the police jeep. Though leaders tried to convince the SI that this was their tradition just as Hindus organized cock fighting during their festivals, the SI was in no mood to hear them and had even caned even senior citizens. The issue had led to a controversy and Pramod had been transferred from Panambur.
The officer who however was reinstated in Panambur through political influence, had even fixed social activist Vidya Dinker, in a false case for questioning him for making a bid to attack a Dalit leader. The case was however later dismissed by the court.
In a more recent case, he had illegally detained and assaulted a youth from Tenka Edapadavu named Padmanabha for six days and had forced him to admit a guilt that he had not committed. In this case the SHRC which had registered a case voluntarily has asked the IGP to undertake a probe.
Now the case of attacking a Dalit officer and then pushing him behind bars too would be taken to the Human Rights Commission.
