Hindu youth ties knot with Muslim girl

MOODBIDRI : At a time when any marriage between a Hindu girl and a Muslim youth who are in love with each other, is misinterpreted by some organizations, tagging such incidents as ‘Love Jihad,’ in Moodbidri a Hindu youth has married a Muslim girl.
Shahida Banu(27), a resident of Ontikatte village has tied the knot to Ganesh, a neighbouring youth, who works for a private company.
If Ganesh is the son of Bhoja Devadiga, Shahida is the daughter of Sulaiman, a beedi checker by profession.
It is learnt the two were in love since the past three years. Love blossomed between the two when Shahida used to visit her brother-in-law’s house. Though the pair decided to enter into wedlock, religion had come in their way as the girl’s family refused to give her in marriage to Ganesh.
The pair which subsequently eloped and entered into wedlock at Arya Samaj in Mangalore on January 27 in accordance to Hindu traditions. Later the marriage was registered at the Sub-Registrar office. The pair is learnt to have applied for a registered marriage a month ago itself.
Shahida is now Sowmya after the wedding and the pair appeared before the Moodbidri police station on Thursday evening along with their marriage records. The police too allowed them to go as they were majors and had married in accordance to law.
