MANGALORE: The selection Committee responsible for the appointment of the next vice chancellor of Mangalore University is learnt to be considering several names for the prominent post. However three of the prominent names heard are that of B Timmegowda, lecturer in Chemistry in the University, TC Shivashankermurthi, retired botany lecturer of Mysore University and B Abdul Rehman, retired lecturer of Kuvempu University.
As far as academic achievements of the three are concerned, it will be Timmegowda who will be topping the list as he has to his credit 37 years of teaching experience, guidance to over 30 PhD theses and authoring of more than 425 research papers. In case the government decides to offer the post to a minority community candidate, then B Abdul Rehman who has served as a lecturer for 18 years in Mangalore University and for 14 years in Kuvempu University and has authored over 70 papers, may be the selectors’ choice.
If it is favored to grant the post to a SC candidate then Shivashankermurthi may be the choice as he has the experience of being a registrar in Mangalore University and of undertaking researches in Canada and US. He also has over 60 research papers to his credit.
Meanwhile, University sources are sure that the chances of Abdul Rehman getting appointed to the top post were high as no university in the state has a vice chancellor belonging to the minority community.
The HA Ranganath led Selection Committee which met last Wednesday, has already sent a list of the above three names to the government and now it is left to be seen as to who among the three will be the government’s choice.
