MANGALORE : The State High Court has cancelled the government order dissolving he DK District Child Welfare Committee, which had been doing a commendable job by putting a brake to child trafficking and the practice of child labour at several places.
The DK CWC which was even adjudged as the Best CWC of the state, was dissolved by the government in an order issued some time back, following a complaint filed through the Deputy Director of the Child Welfare Department, at the behest of some Sangh parivar cadres who were displeased with the CWC for coming in its way and functioning without succumbing to pressure for any corner.
In fact the CWC had undertaken a through probe into the case of the illegal detention of tribal children from Meghalaya in some mutts and mandirs of the district and had submitted a detailed report to the Union Government consequent upon which even a team of officials from the Centre had visited the district for investigation.
Prior to the dissolution of the CWC, the CWC had even complained to the Kavoor police against three officials of the Child Welfare Department who had lifted some important files from its office.
Following the dissolution the DK CWC, President Hilda Rayappan had moved the court challenging the government order. She had also argued that the government order was illegal as the CWC tenure was to expire in February 2010 and that none else but the Child Welfare Board had the authority to interfere in the CWC functioning.
Commenting on the court ruling, CWC member Geo D’Silva, said though the CWC has another 15 days of its term left, atmosphere was not conducive for its functioning. He further added that the CWC had to lose precious time due to the politics resorted to by an officer from the district.
