MANGALORE : Tension continues to prevail in Katipalla-Krishnapura area which witnessed an attack on an innocent youth in Krishnapura sixth block on Tuesday night, close on the heels of Monday’s incident wherein a few Muslim students were attacked during a school annual day. Tuesday night’s incident is suspected to be an act of retaliation to Monday’s attack.
The youth who was a victim of the attack has been identified as Tilak, son of Narayan Poojari, a resident of Krishnapur seventh block. Though Tilak was not involved in any case earlier, it is suspected that it might have been a case of mistaken identity as another person by named Tilak has been identified as an accused in the Tanzeem murder case reported from the area some time back.
The attack took place when Tilak was returning home from his father’s shop at around 10.30 pm. Tilak used to sit in the small shop owned by his father during evening hours, after his duty at Suzlon, as his father who was ill, could not sit in the shop till late night. Reports said some masked men who arrived in two bikes, attacked him with rods.
Meanwhile, speaking to The Canara Times, Suratkal inspector UK Belliappa said a case has been registered. A search is on to nab the assailants, he added. Security in the area has been stepped up following the incident.
