Posted on Feb 3rd, 2010 and filed under Special Report.

PADUBIDRI : The Nagarjuna pipeline works that is underway amid public opposition, has resulted in the development of cracks on the walls of several houses in Tenka Ermal Moorokkelu. Reports indicate that the walls of as many as eight houses in the vicinity had developed cracks as the contractor concerned had used huge machineries to complete the work within the deadline set by the company. It is said the company has asked the contractor to complete the works by February 15.
Of the eight houses that have developed cracks, the worst affected is the house of Janaki Belchada. The front portion of this house has collapsed due to the impact of the huge machineries.
Locals complain that the written complaint lodged by them with the authorities concerned about the inconvenience caused due to the pipeline works, has been of no avail. They have also alleged that the pipeline works were underway without providing any compensation to the affected.
Explaining her plight, a woman who resides in a nearby house says the contractor had asked her to vacate her house, after giving her some money. However, when she refused the amount, the contractor reportedly threatened her saying he knew the way to get her out of the house.
Yet another problem of the locals is the drying up of wells in the vicinity due to the huge trenches laid for the pipeline works.
The huge machineries that are operating round the clock, have also been giving sleepless nights to the people residing in the vicinity, who have now warned that the district administration itself would be held responsible for any grave danger posed by this company which has already brought untold hardships to them.
