MANGALORE: Krishnapur-Katipalla areas in Suratkal police station limits which had remained tense since the past one week owing to a spate of disruptive incidents, continues to remain tense even now. In a latest instance a person was attacked by some bike bound masked assailants near Katipalla-Kaikamba around midnight on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Damodar, a lorry driver and resident of Perla in Kasargod. He is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangalore. Security has been stepped up following this latest incident which took place after Damodar, was on his way to his rented room at Katipalla after having dinner at a bar in Kaikamba. It is learnt, he was mercilessly attacked with swords by the masked men who arrived in two bikes. Locals immediately admitted him to the hospital.
It may be recalled here that the Kasargod district administration had some time back banned people from pillion riding bikes following similar incidents taking place there.
In Katipalla-Kaikamba, there was a clash between two groups last Saturday after some men were accused of teasing women having noodles at a restaurant at Kaikamba.The next day, a person named Deepak was attacked near Krishnapur saloon. Last Sunday night, some Muslim students were attacked during a school annual day for witnessing a dance event by Hindu students. The next day, a youth named Tilak was attacked at midnight. A couple of days ago yet another attempt to disrupt peace was made when a traditional lamp was lighted at the Idgah Maidan in Katipalla.
