MANGALORE: In the wake of the High Court stay to sand mining in Sajipanadu village, the villagers have decided to launch a district wide campaign to put a brake to the unabated sand smuggling from the district to the neighboring Kerala.
Speaking to reporters, S Aboobakker Sajipa, a resident of Sajipanadu said the locals had moved the High Court after their complaint to the district administration proved futile and that the divisional bench of the High Court led by Justice V Gopal Gowda and Justice A Bopayya has issued a stay to the sand mining, by upholding the Public Interest Litigation.
He also called upon various organizations in the district to join hands with them to put a check to the sand smuggling which in the coming days was sure to lead to acute scarcity of water while also endangering bridges across rivers.
