Poor response to bundh call in Mangalore

MANGALORE: The bundh call given by the Sri Rama Sene on Saturday, evoked a poor response in the city. Though most of the shops and business establishments had downed their shutters, movement of people and vehicles was as usual on the city roads. Meanwhile, private buses chose to remain off the roads after some buses were stoned by miscreants early in the morning. However, KSRTC buses plied as usual.
Reports said buses were stoned at Pumpwell, Kottara Chowki, Kavoor and Ekkur. Police have arrested four persons in connection with stoning of two buses at Kavoor. As for the rest, no other untoward incident was reported from any part of the city.
Most of the schools and colleges did not function due to poor student turnout.Autorickshaws and other private vehicles plied as usual.

Ullal peaceful: The situation in Ullal which had witnessed tension for the past couple of days owing to stabbing and other minor incidents, by and large remained peaceful. Police have already detained several persons in connection with the stabbing incident.
A complaint has been lodged with the police by one Kishore Steven D’Souza alleging that some persons threatened him and robbed him of his ATM card. In Ullal Kadappura miscreants stoned a mosque and damaged its window panes.
Even in Bantwal some stone pelting incidents have been reported during Saturday’s bundh. A contract carriage bus was stoned and damaged in Bantwal while another KSRTC bus was stoned at Manehalla by miscreants. A passenger of another KSRTC bus was injured when the bus was stoned at a place called Bambila near Vagga on the Bantwal-Belthangady road.
In Farangipete, the Sri Rama Sene organized a protest meeting in the evening.
In Maani too a Mangalore-Puttur government bus was stoned near Neralakatte. The bus driver was injured in the stoning.
