MANGALORE : CS Dwarakanath, Chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission has said that he would draw the attention of the state government towards the problems faced by the poor Kudubi tribals due to the harassment meted out to them by the SEZ authorities in connivance with the district administration.
Dwarakanath who was on a visit to the city, made a surprise visit to Kudubipadavu and heard the grievances of the poor Kudubi tribals. Gathering hint of the real estate business resorted to by the SEZ on the pretext of setting up of industries, he assured to forward a report to the government in this regard.
The BC Commission Chairman was visibly moved when the poor tribals explained how their flourishing land where they grew three crops were bull oozed by the goons of the SEZ and how they were jobless now. Senior Kudubi farmer, Giriya Gowda informed Dwarakanath that they have not accepted any compensation as they could not lead a good life from the compensation which they can get. “ What job can we pursue by availing the compensation when we do not know any other occupation other than agriculture ?,†he questioned sarcastically.
The tribals also informed the officer that the over 50 complaints lodged by them against the goondaism resorted to by the SEZ goons who barge into their place at night time, have been of no use as in almost all the cases, B Report has been filed in the court.
Speaking to The Canara Times, Dwarakanath said the Commission’s future course of action would be on the basis of the report from the government. He also assured to do his level best for the Kudubi tribals.
Dwarakanath also visited the fisherwomen at the fish market near State Bank and Urvastores and heard their grievances. The women explained to the Commission Chairman, the plight faced by them in the absence of basic amenities in the market area.
