Scribe brutally assaulted in Manjeshwar

MANJESHWAR: Arif Machampadi, the Manjeshwar correspondent of Vartha Bharathi published from Mangalore was grievously attacked by an assailant at Machampadi near Manjeshwar on Friday night. The accused identified as Khaleel alias Abbakka Pitta, a resident of Manjeshwar Badaje, has been arrested. The incident took place when Arif as usual was on way home after his duty at around 10 pm. The accused waylaid him, attacked him with a soda bottle and then escaped after threatening to kill Arif. A seriously injured Arif has been admitted to Kumble government hospital.
Already several criminal cases including a stabbing and assault case are pending against Khaleel in Manjeshwar police station. The motive behind the attack on the soft spoken Arif is still not known. Investigations are in progress.
