BANTWAL : BC Road and other nearby areas in Bantwal, which witnessed group clashes since Sunday evening, have now returned to normalcy, though the situation remains quite tense. Police have so far arrested one person named Abdul Khader, a resident of Talipadpu in connection with the violent incidents while search for the other accused is on.
Meanwhile,a strict vigil has been maintained in the town which witnessed several incidents of violence and rampaging which had left over ten persons injured.
As reported earlier, a dispute that cropped up over an umpire decision during a volleyball match underway at the Deepika High School of Modankaup as part of the Dasara sports meet organized by the Youth Services Department, had sparked the fire of tension and violence when two teams began to clash.
It has even been learnt that the Youth Services Department had not secured the permission of the police department to conduct the sports meet particularly in a sensitive town like Bantwal. The result was that the Bantwal police came to know of the tension through the police control room. But, by the time they could arrive at the spot, the situation had very well gone out of their control.
So far three cases have been registered. Abdul Latif, owner of New Selection at Vasudeva Plaza near the BC Road bus stand has lodged a complaint stating that his shop has suffered a loss of Rs 25,000 when the miscreants went on rampage in his shop. In another case, complaints have been lodged against a certain Nagesh, Keshav Ganesh, Vinayak and a few others on the charges of attacking one Arzan who was returning home from the sports meet.
Yet another complaint that is lodged is by Gopalkrishna, a resident of Pallamajalu who has stated that several persons including Mohammad Sharief, Imran, Sadique, Savul, Jaleel Tausif and others waylaid and abused him before hitting him with a soda bottle.
