2 injured in group clash at Katipalla masjid

MANGALORE: Police had to resort to a lathi charge to quell the mob after the talks over a row pertaining to the Khatib turned violent at the Katipalla Jumma Masjid in Suratkal police station limits on Monday might. Two persons were injured in the violence.
Police informed that two groups were engaged in clash after one of the groups was adamant that the name of the Khatib ought to have mentioned instead of the name of the Deputy Khatib in the notices of the six-day long programmes organized by the masjid on account of Id Milad. The injured namely Hussain and Ahmed, both locals, have been admitted to a private hospital. Police have registered cases against four persons in connection with the incident.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area following the incident.
It may be mentioned here that some time back a complaint had been lodged with the Wakf Board alleging that the erstwhile management committee of the masjid had resorted to irregularities in the construction of the masjid building. Finally, the case was taken to the High Court and the management committee was dissolved following an auditor’s report and an administrative officer appointed. Since the past six months, the masjid is under the supervision of the administrative officer and five advisory committee members appointed by him.
One group had demanded that the administrative officer and the advisory committee cancel the programme the notice of which had mentioned the name of the Deputy Khatib and not the Khatib, while the other group demanded that none else should inaugurate the programme other than those whose name has been mentioned in the notice.
