MANGALORE: Sunil Kumar Bajal, Secretary of the Mangalore city unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has alleged that the Mangalore City Corporation was harassing the Dalit beneficiaries while providing various facilities under the 18 per cent reserve fund of the corporation.
Addressing a meeting of the members of the 18 per cent Reserve Fund Implementation Action Committee in the city recently, Bajal complained that the beneficiaries who had applied for Sintex last year, have still not been provided the facility.
On this occasion, he also informed that the CPI (M) has organized a massive protest in front of the corporation office on September 8 to protest against the ‘anti-people’ policies of the MCC.
Continuing he said the “Mangalore City Corporation has been doing injustice to the Dalit community continuously. The achievements done with regard to the welfare of Dalits since the past two decades is nil.†He further added that despite the protest staged and memorandum submitted to the authorities in March, so far no action has been taken towards the effective implementation of the scheme forcing them to go in for another agitation to wake up the
administration which he said was in deep slumber.
Krishnappa Konchady, CPIM District Committee Member, who was the chief guest, alleged that the city corporation which ought to have distributed sites to Dalits was instead trying to evict them at several places by colluding with private land lords, land mafia and large industrialists.
Vasudeva, Convenor of the Action committee, Bharathi Bolar of CPIM and other DYFI and SFI leaders attended the meeting.
