
MANGALORE: Office bearers of the Dalita Sangharsha Samithi (Krishnappa) staged a demonstration in front of the residence of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in the capital on Thursday in support of several of their demands. The demands included early solution to the problems of those who have let their land for the Mangalore Airport expansion project and to denotify the lands that have been notified for the SEZ in Mangalore.
Krishnananda D, District Convenor of the committee, Raghu Ekkar, Krishna Ekkar and others took part in the protest. Later, the CM met the agitators at the protest venue and accepted their memorandum.
The Dalit leaders who spoke to the CM said several families belonging to the backward classes were facing hardships due to land acquisition for SEZ and that the compensation would do nothing good as the small land holders in the Kudubi community and Dalit community would be thrown to the streets if their lands were acquired. They also demanded that the project be dropped.
It is learnt the CM assured the Dalit leaders that they would be invite or talks within three days to find an amicable solution to their problem. Venkatagiraiah, State Principal Convenor of the Committee and other state office bearers were also present.
