MULKI: In a barbaric act, a youth who was in love with a married woman, consumed poison and then attacked the woman out of frustration in Mulki on Friday.
The youth named Rajesh Shetty (35), a resident of Chitrapu and a security guard at Suzlon and the woman Jyothi Lakshmi have been admitted to the hospital.
Reports say Rajesh Shetty was in love with Jyothilakshmi right since his college days but could not marry her owing to his poor financial background. Jyothilakshmi meanwhile got married with another person and has a child. But Rajesh who continued to love Jyothilakhsmi maintained contact with her even after her remarriage.
On Friday, it is learnt Rajesh had been to the fancy shop owned by Jyothilakshmi near the Divine Call Centre of Karnad. But Jyothi Lakhsmi is learnt to have ignored him. A dejected Rajesh consumed poison and came again came near the shop and all of a sudden attacked Jyothi Lakshmi on her head and hands with a sword. Jyothilakhsmi who ran out and boarded a bus bound towards Kinnigoli. But Rajesh followed her inside the bus when the passengers prevented him and admitted both to the hospital.
The accused Rajesh Shetty who was working in a Mumbai hotel for some years, had recently returned home town and joined Suzlon as a security guard. Jyothilakhshmi’s husband was working as a bus conductor and it is learnt she had maintained contact with Rajesh even after marriage. Reports even said it was Rajesh who helped her renew her shop license recently.
