MANGALORE : The Dakshina Kannada District Police have gathered more information on the links between the underworld that was unleashing internal terror and a few leaders of Hindu organizations in Mangalore.
Interrogation of Prasad Attavar, the State co-Convenor of the Sri Rama Sene has revealed that three leaders of different organizations had links with underworld.
According to a police source ‘ Prasad Attavar is no count at all when considered the others who had links with underworld dons like Ravi Poojari. Thee are several leaders in the district who have maintained such links since several years. The police are after them and that the arrests would-be made in phases as immediate arrest would come in the way of the police department’s efforts in gathering information.’
When District Superintendent of Police Dr A Subrahmanyeshwara Rao was contacted, he said “ There are three more persons who have links with underworld and they would be arrested after a thorough investigation.”
Meanwhile, the court has remanded Arun Attavar to police custody till March 6 to facilitate further interrogation.
Attavar was arrested on charges of abetting seven Ravi Poojari aides who plotted to eliminate two businessmen who refused to provide hafta. Attavar had even launched a hunger strike in the jail but had to consume food after he was handed over to police custody on Wednesday. SP Rao says “Attavar will be in our custody for three more days when we expect some vital information from him. However, he fails to reply properly and maintains silence most of the time. It is clear that he has maintained links with underworld in connection with the ploy to kill two businessmen. The rest of the cases are to be probed.”

Attavar was a police informer
Prasad Attavar had links with the underworld since the past two years. He who used to collect hafta through his organization, whenever felt embarrassed to demand hafta from some businessmen, used to provide their telephone numbers to Ravi Poojari who used to collect the hafta through his aides and pass on the commission to Prasad.
Interestingly, the police had information about this two years ago itself. The police after using him as an ‘informer have now sent him behind bars. The SP only smiles when enquired about this.
