No land acquisition until clear-cut decision on SEZ: CM’s assurance to Pejawar seer

MANGALORE: Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt has said that the Chief Minister has assured him that no land acquisition or any SEZ related work would be undertaken until the government makes a clear-cut decision on the Mangalore Special Economic Zone.
The assurance came after the seer contacted the chief Minister on Sunday in the backdrop of the forcible land acquisition at Kudubipadavu and Kuttettur last Friday despite an earlier assurance against any such moves by the Home Minister and Industries Minister.
In fact the seer had postponed the hunger strike which he was supposed to launch on March 6 opposing forcible acquisition following the assurance from the two ministers.
Following reports of forcible land acquisition the seer had visited the area. Speaking to The Canara Times, the seer said “I have contacted the chief minister and explained to him the present situation. The CM has assured that he would issue instructions to the district administration not to undertake land acquisition or any project related work until the government announces its decision.”
