BANTWAL : The police who have begun their investigation into the shoot out incident by motor bike borne unidentified assailants who were reported to have shot at a jewellery shop owned by Suresh V Baliga at Bantwal have confirmed that the bullets discovered by them were fired from a pistol. Meanwhile, it has been widely suspected that the assailants may have used a bike which was reportedly stolen from Jakribettu and found abandoned.
One Rohan Sequeira from Mangalore had lodged a complaint with Urwa police station on Aug 6th regarding his missing bike. The bike ( KA 19 -9468) has been finally found near the Jakribettu grounds. It has been suspected the same bike may have been used by the assailants. The police have taken the bike into their custody.
As far as the shoot out incident goes, the police were confronted with a problem about the source from which the bullets that pierced the glass panels of the shop were fired. Barring a few glass pieces they could not find any other items on the spot. A lead bullet reportedly fired from a pistol may have bored a hole in the glass panel, it has been speculated. The police have collected all the glass pieces which lay scattered near the spot for further examination.
Special police squad
The police who are investigating the case have intensified their search operations for the absconding assailants. The police sources informed that a special squad has been formed for this purpose and they are confident to nab the assailants at the earliest.
