MANGALORE: Students, employees, and the principals of various private ITIs in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in large numbers in a jatha and a demonstration held in the city on Thursday to prevail upon the government to solve the several problems confronted by them.

The agitators demanded pension scheme and other seniority of service facilities to the private ITI workers on par with the facilities provided to the employees of aided institutions.

They alleged that though the government had undertaken a study on the current scenario of private ITIs with a view to help in their development, so far the recommendations of the report have not been implemented. Yet another grouse was that even the eligible industrial training institutes that have completed seven years, have not been provided government grants, in turn hitting hard its staff and employees.

The protest was led by YN Salian, K Prashanth Nayak, Chandrahas, Chethan, Sudhir, Gopalkrishna and other office bearers of the association of the private ITI employees.
