BANGALORE: It has been reliably learnt that the Congress President Sonia Gandhi was unhappy over the style of functioning of KPCC President RV Deshpande and Working President DK Shiva Kumar. The reason for the anger of Sonia is the failure of the two leaders in effectively conducting the membership drive of the Congress.
It is reported that union health minister Gulam Nabi Azad who had been to Mysore on an official visit recently had informed the Congress leaders of the displeasure expressed by the party chief. If the Congress Chief’s directive to launch membership drive in all states had received a favourable response, the performance in the state was dissatisfactory.
Reliable sources revealed that Sonia has instructed Azad to see that the membership drive was successful in the state too in a couple of weeks’ time.
It is learnt Sonia has questioned why the party had neglected the membership drive when the state was given enough representation in the Union government in the form of three cabinet rank ministers and two ministers of state, with the intention of helping the party weaken the BJP.
