MANGALORE : An under trial lodged in the prison in the city, has attempted suicide, reportedly due to harassment by many Bhajrangdal activists who are behind bars, and fed up with the situation in the jail. A case has been registered in Barke police station.
The under trial who attempted suicide has been identified as Bharatraj who had been arrested in connection with the murder of Manjunath alias Kadle Manja, a Bhajrangdal activist near Carstreet in the city. The Bhajrangdal had even organized a rally then demanding the arrest of the killers.
The jail officials meanwhile had shifted Bharatraj to the Belgaum jail fearing that his life may be in danger in Mangalore prison which had large number of Hindu activists. But the Belgaum jail authorities later shifted him to the Bangalore prison. Again Bharatraj was shifted to Mangalore on the grounds that it would be difficult to produce him before the court in Mangalore Bharatraj attempted suicide reportedly due to frustration.
Even one Munna alias Shashikiran, the accused in the double murder of mutton traders of Talapady had been attacked a few days ago. He who had suffered injuries in his neck had been given treatment in Wenlock Hospital immediately. No sooner it came to light that communal hatred had led to the attack; eight suspected persons were shifted to the Bellary jail. A case has been registered in Barke station in this regard.
