MADIKERI: An eight member CID team including CID DySP Purushottam have been camping in Madikeri since the past several days to carry out detailed investigations into the four murders suspected to have been executed by serial killer Mohan Kumar in the district. Officials have decided to retain Mohan in Madikeri for a few more days to facilitate investigation.
Investigations have revealed that Mohan Kumar had brought Baby Naik of Bantwal on January 3, 2008, Sharada on January 23, 2009, and Vinutha on September 17, 2009 and had eliminated them at the Madikeri government bus stand by giving them cyanide after making them believe that it was a pill to avert pregnancy. Similarly, he had eliminated Jayalakshmi of Kumble at Kushalnagar bus stand on September 17, 2009.
It is learnt, the CID police have gathered strong evidences to prove Mohan’s guilt and in order to ensure punishment to him.
The CID police have also visited several lodges where Mohan had stayed with the women and also the bus stands.
Investigations have now revealed that a young lady named Kavitha( name changed) of BC Road who had been successful in escaping alive from the clutches of the killer has now come forward to provide witness against the serial killer
It is learnt Mohan Kumar who had befriended Kavitha had taken her to Madikeri and after having sex with her had tired to eliminate her by giving her cyanide pills at the government bus stand. But Kavitha who lay unconscious after consuming the pills was admitted by people who noticed her to the district Government Hospital. Kavitha had then (May 13, 2009) not informed anyone about the incident, fearing her honour. Even Mohan had not bothered much about her later on as he was sure that she may not reveal the matter before anyone. Now with Kavitha coming forward to give witness against Mohan, she is expected to be a prime witness that may take Mohan towards the gallows.
If a head constable in Madikeri was a witness to the fact that Kavitha was found unconscious in Madikeri bus stand, there are records in the government hospital to prove that she had consumed poison and had been treated for the same.
Mohan had in all eliminated six young women from Bantwal, three women from Mangalore and Puttur, two from Belthangady, one lady from Sampaje in Kodagu and five from Kasargod, in all accounting to 20. However, the murder of Poornima of Kasargod has still remained a mystery. Mohan during interrogation has admitted to have murdered three women in Madikeri bus stand, one in Kushalnagar bus stand, eight in Mysore, four in Bangalore, two in Hassan and one lady in Kollur. It seemed Mohan while divulging the truth during interrogation had never bothered about the punishment which he might have to undergo. The CID police are expected to exhume the body of Vinutha which was buried at Stevert Hill in Madikeri after concluding that it as an unclaimed body.
It is strongly believed that the CID probe would finally help in proving Mohan’s guilt in the court which would mean a sure death penalty to him.
